Reflecting on The Ross: one year ago Schuman was awarded it’s post-construction cleaning

The Ross towers over Salisbury, MD at 14 stories tall, making it the tallest building in the city. The apartment building began leasing in August 2023 and it’s now home to Salisbury University college students and young professionals. Construction on The Ross began back in 2020 and with much anticipation for the building to begin welcoming residents, Schuman was awarded the project to do a commercial post-construction final clean.

From July 3 to Sept. 9, 2023, Schuman worked with Harkins Contracting and others to get the building ready for excited tenants. The project was no small feat as the building is approximately 93,000 square feet.

Chris Manning, Vice President of Harkin’s Construction, knew that Schuman was right for the job.

“[Schuman was] the obvious choice for us to use on a project the size of The Ross,” Manning said. “They have the manpower and resources to complete the project on schedule.”

Manning explained that Harkin’s has used Schuman’s Cleaning Service on various past projects including the Cambria Hotel and Country Inn in Ocean City, MD.

Heath Schuman, founder and CEO of Schuman’s Cleaning Service, was happy to jump on this project. As an alumni of Salisbury University as well as the father of a SU student, this project was already very interesting to him.

“We have performed a lot of cleaning for Harkin’s and this job was very important to complete on time as students were scheduled to move in,” Schuman said. “They knew we were the only company that could deliver based on the time frame.”

With a strict time frame, Schuman’s Cleaning Service crews got straight to work at The Ross. John Workman, Schuman’s Commercial Division Manager, monitored his team’s progress and ensured he was available for Harkin’s at all times. The scope of work that a building of this size entails (listed below) didn’t intimidate Schuman’s Cleaning Service. They were able to finish the clean as students began to move in! Schuman was excited to be awarded this project and is extremely proud of how it turned out.
